Dan Bills
Say What? The Difference Between What You are Saying and What People are Hearing!
Dr. Dan Bills is an avid(yet barely competent) golfer and an amateur BBQ aficionado who enjoys spending as much time as possible with his wife Emily and his daughter Caroline. Dr. Billsreceived his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Lafayette College and his dental degree from Harvard University, both with Honors, after which he completed a three-year orthodontic residency at the University of Illinois. Heis a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. He maintains a state-of-the-art private practice, Innovative Orthodontics, with three locations in Southern New Jersey, just outside of Philadelphia. He has been honored as “Teacher of the Year” by the University of Pennsylvania Department of Orthodontics and by the Department of Dentistry at Virtua Hospital. He lectures regularly at orthodontic meetings, both stateside and abroad, and gives in-office courses about a variety of clinical topics as well as how to better utilize technology in the orthodontic office. One of his greatest passions is teaching his colleagues how to work smarter and, consequently, live better.
Orthodontists come into contact with hundreds of people every day–patients, parents, team members, dental colleagues, and more. Every one of these interactions is an opportunity to convince or reassure that they are the obvious choice for orthodontic care. However, quite often there may be a big difference between what we think we are saying, and what people are actually hearing. Our choice of words, our body language, our office décor and culture, and our choice of communication tools all say a lot more than what most people think. Communication mistakes can be costly. This lecture will dive deep into proven communication strategies to differentiate your practice in an extremely competitive orthodontic landscape. You simply can’t afford to miss this!
- Explore the ever-growing number of choices that a potential patient has when it comes to orthodontic care for them or for their child
- Review why there may be a big difference between what Orthodontists think are saying and what the people around them are actually hearing
- Discuss proven communication strategies to differentiate your practice as the obvious choice for orthodontic care

Dr. Tim Dumore
You want Pearls? I’ll give you Pearls! Tips and Tricks learned after 30 years.
Tim Dumore wakes up every day thankful that ~ thirty-five years ago he considered that dentistry might be a good career choice. He graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry in 1991, supported by the Canadian Armed Forces, and was then stationed to Cold Lake, Alberta for four years. During that time, he developed an appreciation for all aspects of dentistry and also managed to score 20 trips in the F-18, managing to puke only twice! A budding interest in orthodontics lead to three years at UCSF Graduate Orthodontics, allowing him to amass an impressive amount of debt in exchange for an outstanding educational experience. He then returned to Winnipeg where he has practiced for the last 23 years.
Dr. Dumore’s practice philosophy centers on incorporating technology to benefit patients, a special interest in interdisciplinary treatment, and nurturing and enabling his amazing team. Outside of practice, he shares the love that many of us have for participating in organized dentistry, and he has had the pleasure of teaching at the U of M Graduate Orthodontics program since graduating. He is co-director of the Winnipeg Progressive Dental Study Club, a Seattle Study Club affiliate, where he finds much enjoyment learning and collaborating with dentist and specialist friends. Dr. Dumore is on the board of uLab Systems and is passionate about helping develop this technology to benefit orthodontists. As well, he is on the LightForce Clinical Executive Board, another company where he sees a bright future.
Jennifer Dumore has generally tolerated Tim as her hubby for 32 years and has blessed him with three children, Thomas, Lucas, and Danica. (If you actually remember this, he will buy you a drink at the bar.) In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, cooking and dining out, and exercising (those are related), gardening, and just living life in general. He is an excellent dancer, accomplished musician, and sings like an angel. This last bit isn’t true, but when you write your own bio, you can pretty much say what you want.

Alex Rasmussen
So You Wanna Be a Staff Super Star
Five years ago, Alex Rasmussen heard the words that every aspiring, young professional dreams of hearing.
"Why don't we go in together and start our own company? Alex, you can be your own boss, continue doing the work you love, I can bring you national exposure, as well as be your business partner!"
These words came from Dr. Kyle Fagala.
Dr. Kyle runs two large orthodontic practices in Germantown, TN. He was a client of Alex's, who, at the time, was building a digital marketing division of a web design company.
Together Alex and Dr. Kyle had developed a marketing mix that made big contributions to Fagala's rapid success in the orthodontic field and led to a rapid expansion for Saddle Creek Orthodontics after only two years in business.
This business venture evolved into a friendship that eventually led to the partnership of co-founding Neon Canvas! They decided on the idea of a boutique marketing firm that focused on orthodontic practices. Neither had heard of a similar firm, so they took their idea and ran with it.
That was five years ago! Since this idea started, Neon Canvas won multiple advertising awards and was named "Best Place to Work" by the Memphis Business Journal two out of the last three years.
Rasmussen expanded their business holdings to include Signature Advertising and multiple real estate holdings throughout the U.S.
When Alex is not running Neon Canvas, he's busy traveling with his wife Sarah and their kids. Alex enjoys coaching when he isn't speaking at a conference, hosting a podcast, or continuing his love for footgolf where he represents the USA and enjoys a top 50 professional ranking.
So you want to be a staff superstar? Every company has them, and they often become the highest paid, longest-tenured, and happiest employees.
Understanding how and when to think like an owner is pertinent. How to manage through bad days and support others through servant leadership is the key to superstardom.
Join Alex as he gives you practical tips that you can put to use right now and in your everyday life to maximize your potential.
